Bad times v Good times

Sadly after inspecting our 2nd hive (Carnies) we discovered not 4 x Varroa per 9"sq but over 100.  This is not good at all because it means we have a problem.  We dusted with icing sugar, to remove any from the comb but the ones inside the capped brood are the problem.  They are still in there.  Treating with apiguard at next inspection just to make sure.

The small dark dots are varroa mites, they look like tics.

On a positive note, we had a bit of a messy time this weekend after extracting 44lbs of honey!!!  and there is still some left to remove.  Can't believe it, our first year and we get that much.  Even got mum roped in, she loved it.
